I really thought I had missed out on something so good. All that changed when I went to Geelong’s first training session and got my hands on a limited edition premiership bear.

I could not think of a better subject to start the year off in my blog. Yesterday, I went to the Cats first open training session for the year.

The day started at the true fanatics time of 6.30 am. Normally this really would not have been so painful. I just had an interview with an ESL summer school in England the night before and had not been up so early in two months. My body ached with exhaustion the next morning.

A tired feeling was completely worth it when I got to see the lovely K Fred again and meet Bambi and Arj that I had been chatting to on Twitter. Mon and I managed to get a bucket load of autographs after the training session. The highlight was getting a pic with the new captain of Geelong, Mr Joel Selwood ( even if the girl from Griffith is covering him).

So I think we’re in for a good year to come if this start is anything to go by. My aims are to attend all the Victorian games, and have a blast at a Sydney one.

A Victory For The Ages

Reasons why this was the best premiership yet:

1. The Cats beat Collingwood.

2. Jimmy Bartel got the Norm Smith Medal.

3. They did it without Mark Thompson and Gary Ablett.

4. Each one of those players truly deserved a premiership medallion; they were all so good!

5. I found my camera ( in the end there were not one, but four sets of ripping good photos).

6. I met one of my tweeps ( the lovely Kirrily Fred).

7. All the memorabilia I have collected and will collect ( The best one is my “I was there” premiership T-shirt).

8. Actually being at the MCG for the big game.

9. Spending family day with Dad and Mon ( reminded me of the good old days in The Ford Stand).

10. Realising what it most important in life. If the non football fans in your life know how happy a footy team makes you then they are worth holding on to…

A Great Week So Far

The heartbreak of not scoring tickets for the 2009 Grand Final has been rectified this week. My sister and I are going to be sitting on level 1 for the big game on Saturday. It was the most perfect birthday present for my best friend in the whole world.

As dad said: “all they have to do now is win for us.” But they have made me so proud that a Grand Final win would just be the icing on the cake. 2011 has been a really lucky year already.

Not even the spoilt sport nature of a certain Collingwood supporter can ruin it. My love of footy will never die: win lose or draw! :).

I am sitting in the Ballieu library ( I wonder if it is named after our Victorian premier) trying ever so hard to keep going with my many assignments. I feel like I have well and truly completed my work out for the day by having to go all the way over from Barry St to the old part of Melbourne uni that I do not frequent. Perhaps that is why I am devoid of all energy. The good news out of the day is that I have planned my week of Italian classes woo! And this morning my Twitter buddies and dad pointed out a terrific article about Jimmy Bartel. You know it will be a good finals series when…

1. Jimmy Bartel appears on “Before The Game” before the finals have even started.

2. The cats convincingly beat Collingwood (there is nothing better than seeing black and white supporters go home).

3. Geelong comes out week once and proves Jeff K wrong once and for all. The cats can win when it counts Jeffy!

4. The “oldies” and ‘newbies” play really well together like a well oiled machine. Honourable mentions must go to Ottens, Bartel, Bundy and Menzel.

5. A Geelong tram zooms down Bridge Road.
